Cultural program

Performers

At conference dinner on Thursday, the participants of KBS 2021 Helsinki will get to enjoy "live" Finnish music performed by violinist Mervi Myllyoja and pianist Virva Garam.

Mervi & Virva are a performing and recording classical duo working since 2009. Their program consists of classical music, original arrangements and some popular pieces. The duo is based in Finland, but has Hungarian and Karelian background, which plays a role in the choice of pieces they play. Mervi & Virva have performed as highlight artist at numerous festivals, concerts and receptions, such as Karelian Summer Festival, Hungarian Centre of Science and Culture, and the prestigious matinees of The Finnish Club.

Mervi & Virva are entertaining audiences with their warm way of hosKng along the program to engage their listeners. They have published a CD “Mervi & Virva” honouring the 100 years of Finnish independence. The album, that was aired several Kmes on Radio Classic in Finland, was topped off by the duo’s DVD publication displaying a fantasy-like scenery from Greece, titled by Heino Kaski’s compositon “Night by the Sea”. You can take a listen and a look at this performance here: https://youtu.be/Fifw0uuyXLs

The duo toured in Hungary in 2019 with TV interviews and concerts, and is booked for a tour in Germany in 2022. Both of the arKsts have released their solo albums, and have performed with their individual programs in Finland and abroad. Duo’s latest release, Dance Passion, is available on digital platforms (Spotify, iTunes, Tidal etc). Find more information and listen to the duo’s recordings on www.merviviolin.com.

Location

Mervi & Virva will be performing at the beautiful Steinway Piano Gallery located in the heart of Helsinki. Built upon a global concept, Steinway & Sons can be described as a modern piano movement that is grounded upon traditional values. At the Helsinki gallery, you can find a vast selection of Steinway & Sons flygels and pianos. The Steinway Piano Gallery, however, is much more than just a piano store, as it is also a meeting place for anyone interested in pianos, flygels or music in general. The gallery frequently hosts various kinds of events, such as concerts, piano courses, album publication events, seminars, and now also the conference "dinner" of KBS 2021 Helsinki!
