Social program

The Spirit of KBS

The Kettil Bruun Society aims to promote research on the social aspects of alcohol alcohol through the exchange of scientific knowledge and experiences among researchers, and to encourage international collaboration. At the symposium, exchange of ideas about ongoing research by the presentation of papers is central, but getting to know colleagues and exchange ideas with them more informally is equally important.

The organizers of KBS21 are looking into different options to provide possibilities for such informal exchanges, e.g. through an online welcome reception, the traditional football game in an online format, an online lobby where you can meet people or ask for directions, and/or other social program. We will also do our best to add a special Helsinki touch to the conference.

Please feel free to share good ideas, previous online conference experiences, and no-goes with the organizers: .

Free mingling

KBS 2021 Helsinki will be using an online conference platform, Remo, to facilitate in-person-networking and interactive engagement opportunities for the conference participants, despite the physical distance. Here you can join a table surrounded by long-lost friends - just like at a physical conference - or find new acquaintances wandering around in a digital lobby.

KBS newbies & veterans

KBS conferences tend to be a great way for people new to the field to meet some of the veterans, and for us “oldies” to get to know new faces. This year, it may be more difficult to just bump into people during the social tours or chat over dinner, so Petra Meier (incoming president of KBS) has invited some lovely long-standing members to a couple of meet-ups especially for newbies. No agenda, just an informal opportunity to say hi and put faces to names, chat over a coffee/glass of something/breakfast/cake/dinner, and chat about careers or pets or hobbies (maybe even favourite football teams)! We’ll meet in small groups and rotate in between so you get to meet a few different people.

 Conference "dinner"

Although we will not be able to dine together this year, KBS 2021 Helsinki sticks to the tradition of organizing a "dinner" at the end of the conference. After speeches, thank you's and other program, the participants can continue onto the conference afterparty at Remo.

All social activities (with the exception of the conference "dinner") are scheduled with a morning and an evening session to allow for time zone issues. Feel free to participate in either or both!
